Overview

Moraine Park Technical College is accepting applications for a part-time, temporary Bulidings and Grounds Worker at the Beaver Dam Campus. This position would be from late-May to mid-October of 2024 and would be 25 hours per week. Schedule is flexible.The Temporary Buildings and Grounds Worker would perform a variety of light maintenance, shipping and receiving, landscaping, repair, and cleaning functions in and around the College facilities and grounds. This position includes handling many tasks independently, but often assisting Maintenance and Facilities team with more complex projects.

Duties & Responsibilities:

    Perform general maintenance of all buildings, grounds, and equipment identified per written or verbal communication or self-identified issues.
  • Operate all types of equipment to maintain grounds. This may include but is not limited to lawn and tree care, weed control, pest management, and snow removal.
  • Manage shipping / receiving for the assigned MPTC Campus. Unload and assist deliveries to receive packages and shipments, verify merchandise, and forward any paperwork to the Finance Office for payment. Report any problems such as incorrect quantities or items, damages, etc. Package, label, and arrange for shipment of outgoing packages via courier or common carrier. Distribute inter-office mail.
  • Maintain organization and cleanliness within all maintenance, shipping and receiving, and surplus/storage areas consistent with established departmental policies, procedures, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Perform large and small wall repairs, including but not limited to: patching, drywall, and painting. Move, assemble, and alter furniture and equipment for students and employees.
  • Check and replace light bulbs, ballasts, and drivers within the facilities.
  • Operate and maintain motorized vehicles, district vehicles, and housekeeping equipment.
  • Identify and dispose of recyclable materials, hazardous waste, and contaminated materials according to District procedure and safety guidelines.
  • Assist the Facilities work team, including maintenance, housekeeping, security, and management, with a variety of assigned tasks and special projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Necessary Experience & Qualifications:

Must-Have Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated mechanical ability to operate a variety of hand and power tools and motorized equipment.
  • Ability to identify, troubleshoot, and determine repair options for general building issues and safety concerns.
  • Knowledge of blood-borne pathogens and other safety regulations, such as lock out, tag out and forklift.
  • Knowledge of software applications, including Microsoft Office 365 (Office Suite, Teams, SharePoint, etc.).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to communicate clearly and effectively with end users, colleagues, and management to provide a complete and timely explanation of issues and decisions to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations by promoting and maintaining an inclusive work environment and culture that is respectful and accepting of diversity.

Desired Qualifications:

  • General understanding of groundskeeping, landscaping, and vehicle maintenance.

Any combination of necessary experience and qualifications which provides desired knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Work Environment:

  • Physical environment requires work in laboratory and shop environments to include: manufacturing, automotive, welding and metal fabrication, food preparation, biological and chemical areas, etc. with moderate noise occasionally as well as working in interior and exterior conditions.

Other Position Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Ability to perform physical labor, including properly lifting 25 lbs. consistently, up to 80 lbs. individually, and 80+ lbs. with assistance. Ability to identify what type and when to utilize mechanical lifting assistance such as hand cart, pallet jack, or forklift.
  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and scaffolding, operate various lifts and reach above head to work on projects and complete work performed on the interior and exterior of campus buildings.
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for long periods of time. Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, twist, and crawl.
  • Ability to perform duties within extreme hot and cold temperature ranges, and dusty and dirty work environments to complete job assignments.
  • Flexible scheduling may be required due to response needed for snow removal or emergency calls.
