Job Description

Job Summary:

The Customer Service Lab Technician will provide value to our customers by writing technical reports that document machine clothing performance. This position requires preparing and analyzing returned machine clothing using standard procedures. Additional investigations or data trending may be required to complete the final reports, which are issued to internal and external customers. The technician will also provide technical support to the Research & Development and Product Engineering Departments through digital imaging, quality testing, characterizing trial fabrics and evaluating competitive products. This position reports directly to the Customer Service Lab Supervisor. Albany International is an Equal Opportunity Employer including Veterans and Disabled.

Safety and Procedures:

  • Follow all published safety policies/procedures and Job Instruction Breakdowns Sheets (JIBS) applicable to the job.
  • Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) that has been identified on the Hazard Analysis for the department/role.
  • Attend and participate in all safety training, safety meetings, audits, and Behavior Based Safety (BBS) programs assigned.
  • Actively participate in observing and reporting all safety hazards. If capable, correct the observed safety hazard.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Receive returned machine clothing samples.
  • Log projects in and out of the project database.
  • Prepare and microscopically examine samples for wear and other usual and unusual characteristics.
  • Document and record any significant sample characteristics.
  • Perform specific quantitative and qualitative analysis on the returned sample, e.g., caliper and air permeability.
  • Write technical reports for customers to explain the results of the sample examination, using the data collected, analytical observations and historical data.
  • Consult Product Engineering, Applications, or R&D staff for additional interpretation and final report approval.
  • Create the job work order and enter report data into SAP and post reports to the Albany International Customer Information System.
  • Work with internal and external customers on projects involving specialized testing.
  • Perform Product Engineering and R&D sample preparation and performance testing.

Requirements:

Required Skills:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint) and Outlook.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail, organized, able to follow procedures and maintain records.
  • Self-motivated, resourceful, able to prioritize and conduct analyses independently.
  • Problem solver, critical thinking, and deductive reasoning skills.
  • Demonstrate analytic skills and technical writing ability.

Required Experience:

  • 2 or more years of experience working in a quality or testing lab setting preferred.

Education Requirements:

  • High School Diploma Required.
  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry/biology or applicable experience preferred.
