Job Description

Broadwind Heavy Fabrications thinks BIG about our Engineering team! We are searching for a Manufacturing Engineer to join our team in Manitowoc, WI. This position will design and implement manufacturing related tools, processes, and methods that will positively impact the efficiency, productivity, and profitability of the company. This role will have hands-on involvement from initial quotation through product shipment.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (May include some or all of the following responsibilities)

  • Perform any or all of the necessary tasks related to a product fabrication:
    • Interpret customer technical specifications and assist in clearly communicating requirements to manufacturing floor through drawings or work instructions.
    • Support manufacturing documentation creation through routing definition, and ERP system support as needed.
    • Program CNC and welding equipment.
    • Design jigs and fixtures as needed.
  • Lead process improvement initiatives using Lean tools and methods.
  • Support identification and management of Capital Improvement projects.
  • Support quick and accurate cost estimates including manufacturing strategy, initial routings, and special tooling requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS

Academic/Experience/Credentials/Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering required.
  • Associate degree in mechanical design with extensive work experience may be considered.
  • 1+ years' experience as a Manufacturing Engineer
  • Hands-on experience working in an industrial manufacturing environment required.
  • Experience with Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing a plus.
  • Experience with heavy weldments, metal fabrication, painting, and assembly operations is highly desired.
  • Familiarity with welding processes to include Sub arc, MIG, and TIG is a plus.
  • Experience in generating estimates is a plus.
  • Must possess valid driver's license and proof of insurance.
  • Ability to detail drawings to industry standards and codes such as ASME, AISC.

Specialized Skills/Knowledge/Ability

  • Skilled at using SolidWorks 3D software.
  • Experience with nesting plasma cutting; "Pronest" software experience a plus.
  • Able to design products using an "Indented BOM structure."
  • Competent in working with BOMs.
  • Proficiency in MS word and Excel - able to comfortably utilize mathematical formulas in Excel.
  • Robust analytical skills with exceptional reasoning abilities; Ability to make sound decisions with a variety of information.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects successfully while maintaining deadlines.
